The Minutemen are getting used to this whole winning thing.
For the second time in as many years, Mendham’s ice hockey team won the Halvorsen Cup Championship, this time knocking off Pequannock 6-4 at Mennen Arena Saturday night.

Pequannock wouldn’t go quietly, though, netting three of its own goals in the second period. With 4:16 left in the game and Mendham ahead by just a goal, Minutemen Captain John Gionco put the icing on the cake with the final goal of the tournament.
The championship gives Mendham its third Cup in six years, and now the team enters Monday night’s Public B matchup ranked by the Star-Ledger as the No 6 team in the state. The Minutemen will play at 8:30 p.m. at Mennen Arena against Hopewell Valley, the No. 27 ranked team in the state.
