Upgrades Coming This Fall To Chubb Park In Chester

CHESTER, NJ —Work on replacing and upgrading sections of the Chubb Park playground and other areas of the popular township park is well underway.

The Chester Township Parks Committee reports that all of the old playground equipment has been removed from the existing playground to make way for the new and improved set. The new playground equipment is scheduled to be installed in early October.

Meanwhile, the ground will be prepared for the equipment by the Chester DPW and footings will be poured, according to Parks Committeeman David Ayers.

Chubb Park is an 85-acre facility that the Chubb Family donated to the township and includes amenities such as:

• 2 Multi-Purpose Athletic Fields
• 2 Tennis Courts
• Children’s Playground
• 1 Teen & Adult Baseball Field
• Ice Skating & Nature Pond with shelter
• 3 Youth Softball Fields
• Sledding Hill
• 1 Little League Baseball Field
• Veterans Monument
• 9-11 Memorial
• Patriots Path Hiking Trail Access
• 1/4 Mile ‘Taylor Walking Path’

According to park officials, as part of the renovation, the tennis courts at the park will be stripped so that pickleball can be played on them when no tennis players are present.

After the playground at Chubb Park is finished, another set of playground equipment will be installed at Highland Ridge Park, which is just behind the telephone pole farm.

An ADA-compliant walkway will be built to provide access to the playground in this lovely setting, with plenty of parking already available, Ayers said.

A grant awarded to Chester Township will pay for the majority of the new playground equipment.
