WATCH: Robotic Snow Blower Clears Driveway While NJ Owner Sips Coffee Inside

The autonomous technology uses "Smart Obstacle Detection" to maneuver around an area and remove snow efficiently.

CHESTER, NJ — While dealing with heavy snowfall is nothing new to the Garden State, new technology is changing how we deal with it.

Chester man Tom Moloughney is someone embracing that change.

While many residents were manning their plows and shovels to clear out their driveways, Moloughney launched his autonomous snow blower to do the heavy lifting while he stayed warm inside.

Moloughney, who showcases electric vehicles and technology on his social media, posted updates on what looks like a giant Roomba cleaning up his driveway throughout the storm.

“Winter Storm Fern has descended upon NJ this morning, and my Yarbo autonomous snow blower went into action,” Moloughney posted Sunday. “I'm inside sipping a coffee while it's doing its job - so I'm happy so far!”

The technology, considered a “game-changer” in snow removal, is the Yarbo autonomous snow blower robot. The electric device clears 6,000 square feet per charge and has automatic wireless recharging capabilities.

Additionally, like a Roomba, the device uses “Smart Obstacle Detection” and "Smart Route Planning” to engage in the most efficient snow plowing strategies.

The device will run you around $5,000. Whether that’s worth trading in the cold hands, sore back, and wet socks that snow removal can result in is up to the consumer.

Moloughney told ABC7 that the device takes a long time to assemble and program, saying that he'd put in roughly 30 hours of work into before it got going. He added, though, that the work earned him "a big reward" once it was up and running.
