West Morris Students Sing in National Honor Choir

Jocelyn Alam and Gabe Lukijaniuk, from West Morris Regional HS District, performed with the ACDA National Honor Choir.

Jocelyn Alam and Gabe Lukijaniuk were among 273 students from around the country who performed with the ACDA National Honor Choir in Minneapolis, MN. Both students were among thousands who auditioned via digital recordings last September. Jocelyn was the only Soprano 1 from NJ accepted into the choir, and Gabe was one of only two Bass 2's accepted. The students received music in the fall and learned their parts prior to attending the performance weekend from March 8-11. Students studied under the direction of Eric Whitacre, a grammy winning composer and conductor. His concert music has been performed throughout the world by millions, and his ground-breaking Virtual Choirs have united singers from over 110 different countries. A recording of the National Honor Choir singing the National Anthem in rehearsal has gone viral with over 2 million views in only 2 weeks. The final performance was on March 11 at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, featuring the Minnesota Orchestra. Both Gabe and Jocelyn had an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives. They have shared this experience with their fellow students at West Morris Central and West Morris Mendham High Schools, and continue to pursue higher level experiences within our state and region.
