WWII Veteran, Longtime Mendham Resident Dies at 91

'Ed' Sisson passed on Memorial Day.

As a member of the United States Army in World War II, Elwood Sisson’s passing on Memorial Day this year is both ironic and fitting.

The longtime Mendham resident died at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge on May 25.

Sisson, born in Elizabeth, spent more than 40 years living in Mendham and was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and the Mendham Golf and Tennis Club.

Sisson worked at Houdaille Construction Materials in Morristown for 36 years before retiring in 1978 as Vice President of Sales.

An avid sports fan, Sisson loved his Notre Dame football, New York Mets, and New York Jets, along with driving his Chrysler Sebring around town.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marie, of 56 years. He is survived by a son and two grandsons.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Mendham, with visitation on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Mendham.
