MIDDLESEX, NJ — Middlesex Borough elementary students were among those recognized as the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office honored winners of its 2026 Bike Safety and Personal Safety Coloring Book Contest at an awards ceremony June 6 at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School.

The event welcomed elementary school students and families for a day of safety education, creativity and community engagement, followed by a Bike Rodeo hosted in partnership with Keep Middlesex Moving.

The annual contest encourages students in third through fifth grade to use art to promote safety messages. Through original black-and-white illustrations, participants demonstrate their understanding of everyday bike and personal safety practices while helping educate their peers and the broader community.

This year, the Sheriff's Office received more than 300 submissions from students representing Middlesex, Edison, Old Bridge, South Brunswick and Woodbridge. Sheriff Mildred S. Scott recognized 42 winners, including 24 in the Bike Safety category and 18 in the Personal Safety category.

The winning artwork will be featured in two educational coloring books produced by the Sheriff's Office and distributed to schools, community programs and outreach events across Middlesex County.

The event reflects the Sheriff's Office's ongoing commitment to educating and empowering young residents through proactive community outreach programs that promote safety, responsibility and lifelong learning, officials said.
