Middlesex Will Propose New E-Bike and Scooter Rules: What To Know (patch.com) — Middlesex officials are considering a new ordinance that would ban riding e-bikes, scooters, hoverboards, Segways, and even regular bicycles on sidewalks, in borough parks, and in certain parking lots. Riders in Middlesex would also have to walk bikes through crosswalks and avoid carrying passengers without proper seats, with fines reaching up to $2,000 for repeat violations.
2. South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department is Looking for New Members to Join Their Ranks (tapinto.net) — If you live in or near South Plainfield in Middlesex County and have ever thought about firefighting, the volunteer department is actively recruiting new adult and junior members. With weekly Monday night meetings on Maple Avenue, extensive free training, LOSAP retirement benefits, stipends, and scholarships, the department stresses both community service and a strong family-like camaraderie.
3. N.J. American Water invests $1.1M in Middlesex Borough water system upgrades (roi-nj.com) — New Jersey American Water is starting a $1.1 million upgrade to Middlesex Borough’s water system, replacing 2,500 feet of 1960s-era mains on George Avenue and adding hydrants. Crews will also inspect service lines for lead or galvanized pipe and coordinate any needed replacements, with weekday work expected through mid-October and access to homes maintained throughout construction.
4. Knights swing to Finals (knightlifeob.com) — Baseball fans in Middlesex will appreciate that the Knights reached both the GMC and NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV finals, capping a 21-10 season. Revolutionary War Re-Enactment July 4 At East Jersey Old Town Village In Piscataway (patch.com) — Middlesex County is hosting a free “Independence Day on the Raritan” celebration July 4 at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway, with shuttles linking key historic sites. Families can enjoy a Revolutionary War 5K, live patriotic music, theater, kids’ activities, costumed re-enactors, and a dramatic colonial weapons demonstration, plus a special exhibit on Middlesex County’s divided loyalties during the Revolution.
