Middlesex Police Urge Caution As Students Return To School

Police are reminding motorists to slow down and watch for students as Middlesex schools reopen Thursday.

MIDDLESEX, NJ — Drivers should plan for busier streets Thursday, September 3, as Middlesex students return for the first day of school.

The Middlesex Borough Police Department and Board of Education issued a reminder Wednesday, citing increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

"We encourage drivers to travel and exercise caution," officials said in the alert.

The message for families beginning the 2026-27 school year: Leave extra time, stay alert near schools and watch carefully for students walking or riding bicycles.

Motorists should obey school-zone speed limits and remain stopped for pedestrians in marked crosswalks, police said.

"Travel safely and have a great start to the 2026-2027 school year!" officials said.
