Boy Seriously Injured After E-Bike Runs Stop Sign In Middlesex

MIDDLESEX BOROUGH, NJ — A juvenile riding an electric bike at high speed ran a stop sign Monday night and struck a passing car, sustaining serious injuries, police said.

The crash occurred at 9:19 p.m., according to the Middlesex Borough Police Department. The boy failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a motor vehicle, police said. Officers responded along with Emergency Medical Services from RWJBarnabas Mobile Health. The boy was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.

Police used the incident to remind e-bike riders to wear helmets and safety gear, obey all traffic laws and stay alert to other vehicles and pedestrians. New Jersey's new e-bike requirements were signed into law in January 2026 and take full effect in July, with information available through the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission and local police department social media.
