According to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Buermann, who prosecuted the case, the girl was sexually assaulted by Oxlaj in 2021, when she was between the ages of 8 and 9 years old. The county prosecutor declined to say how Oxlaj knew the girl, saying divulging that information would violate the girl's privacy.

A Union County jury previously found him guilty of one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault (rape), one count of second-degree sexual assault, and one count of third- degree child endangerment.
