Special Olympics 'Flame of Hope' Torch Run Passes Through Middlesex Borough

The Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games open this weekend at TCNJ.

MIDDLESEX, NJ — Officers from the Middlesex Borough and Piscataway police departments joined together Friday to run a leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey, with the "Flame of Hope" expected to passing through town around 2:30 p.m.

The torch was handed off from Dunellen Police Department officers and traveled west on Bound Brook Road/Union Avenue (Route 28) before being passed to officers from the Bound Brook Police Department.

The flame is making its way across the state to TCNJ, where the Special Olympics New Jersey 2026 Summer Games are being held June 5-7.

Athletes competing at the state games qualify through local and regional competitions after beginning practice in April.
