The Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club (AHYC) invites the community to experience the thrill of sailing with its Adult Sailing Lessons and Youth Keelboat Sailing Program, offering hands-on instruction, teamwork, and unforgettable time on the water in Atlantic Highlands Harbor and Sandy Hook Bay.
Designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence on the water, AHYC’s Adult Sailing Program provides a comprehensive introduction to sailing led by U.S. Sailing-certified instructors.
Participants begin with on-land instruction, learning the fundamentals of sailing and hands-on rigging of the Flying Scot, a stable and comfortable 19-foot sailboat ideal for both leisure and racing. As skills develop, sailors may also have the opportunity to sail larger vessels, including a BluSail 24’ and a Peterson 34’.
The program includes four 3-hour lessons, where students will learn to:
Classes are scheduled flexibly on weekdays, evenings, and weekends, based on availability and conditions. Lessons are designed to be completed over approximately four weeks. Open to the public.

Participants also receive a U.S. Sailing guidebook, instructional materials, and a certificate upon completion, with opportunities to continue sailing within the AHYC community.
AHYC’s Keelboat Youth Sailing Program offers a dynamic summer-long experience for young sailors ages 12–18, combining sailing instruction with leadership development and competitive racing.

While club membership is not required to participate, AHYC encourages students to explore membership opportunities to continue sailing, connect with experienced sailors, and become part of a vibrant waterfront community.
