My Platform for Monmouth County Commissioner Part 1

Monmouth County Democratic Primary Write in Candidate Eduardo Castillo's platform for the County commission

This post was contributed by a community member.

In 2020, the Monmouth County Commission illegally raised their own salaries without public consultation. This is the sort of government corruption I will seek to shine a light on and root out wherever it is found. When elected, I plan to: -Appoint an independent salary commission to oversee all future salary raises

-Adopt a hard no same-term pay raises rule -Require that county commissioners provide written justification for their vote on a salary raise

Subscribe

-Require at least 2 public hearings on any salary raises

- Extend the required public notice period to 30 days prior to a first hearing on a salary raise -Require a cooling off period of 14 days between a final hearing and a vote on a salary raise

As energy costs continue to skyrocket due to AI data centers and an outdated energy grid, we need immediate and substantial action to get prices back down. At present, our county commission has failed to take any meaningful action towards tackling this crisis, even failing to act on addressing the various county departments that now include AI assistants on their websites. As your county commissioner, I will fight every day to ensure all necessary actions are swiftly taken.

When elected, I plan to: -Fight to keep AI data centers out of Monmouth County and New Jersey as a whole -Remove any existing AI assistants on county sites and bar county funds from going towards AI -Introduce a resolution in support of a statewide utility rates freeze -Ramp up efforts to spread awareness about and help individuals and families navigate existing energy assistance programs such as LIHEAP, USF, and PAGE -Promote community solar programs to residents -Perform energy audits of county buildings and upgrade where needed for energy efficiency

Our youth's education is vital for their future, and should be of upmost importance to all of us. Despite this, our current county commissioners have year after year left Brookdale Community College students and staff to suffer the consequences of underfunding, and continue to ignore the needs of our Pre-K - 12 students. Additionally, when nearly 1 in 10 Monmouth County children are living in poverty, it is imperative that we take immediate action to lower costs for families. In Monmouth County, the average annual daycare cost is an enormous $15,200. When elected, I plan to: -Provide Brookdale Community College with the funding levels that it needs -Make investments into affordable childcare for families in need -Construct new public playgrounds and update existing ones to ensure accessibility and safety -Progress towards universal school air conditioning

Monmouth County infrastructure is in total crisis. There are far too many potholes that go unfilled for months or even years, well-maintained sidewalks are a rarity, and nearly 1 in 4 Monmouth County bridges are in need of repair. Meanwhile, our federal government is focused on building a gas pipeline that would cut right through Monmouth, pollute our water, pollute our air, risk explosions, and bring various other dangers, while not even providing us any of the resources it would give. We urgently need action to revitalize our infrastructure and protect our communities from these environmental hazards. When elected, I plan to: -Call upon the Governor to oppose the NESE pipeline -Put funding towards helping towns construct and repair sidewalks and ensure that sidewalks and crosswalks are ADA-complaint -Create an online form where residents can easily report a pothole on a county road without having to call -Invest more money towards repairing our roads and bridges -Develop and enact a Monmouth County Waste Reduction Plan including county-funded composting and food waste diversion efforts -Promote and host community cleanups -Provide dedicated county funds towards local community gardens -Pass a resolution in support of the Climate Superfund Act

As the Trump administration continues to weaponize federal agencies to spread disinformation about public health on the national stage, and various states across the country continue to restrict reproductive healthcare further and further, it is crucial that we use what power we have on the county level to keep our communities informed, healthy, and able to access the care they need. When elected, I plan to: -Fund a Monmouth County mobile health clinic focused on reproductive health services, immunization, health education, and general health screenings

- Provide the Monmouth County Health Department with the resources it needs to combat the spread of public health disinformation
