Soporowoski said Tuesday night he will official concede.

"Let's be realistic, they got 1,000 more votes than me. I don't want to belabor this," he said. "Considering the amount of money I spent and the amount of money they spent, I'm impressed, honestly, I got the number of votes I did."

He estimated he spent about $1,800 on the election. Clarke/Dudzinski ran with the support of the Middletown and Monmouth County Republican parties.

"They had two attack mailers and they had text messages going out every day," said Soporowski. "My intention was to keep it positive and I will keep it positive all the way to the end. I was not going to get into the weeds with that. Whatever support I can give, I will give. I live in Middletown and I want it to succeed. I'm not going anywhere and I'm here for the long haul."

Soporowski said he wanted to run for Township Committee because:

"I feel I offer a unique skill set being a business owner in town and having been elected to the Board of Ed., I figured I could be an asset to the town."

"Not many people vote in primaries," he said, musing that may be why he did not receive more votes. "I also want to raise attention and awareness of primaries; they get forgotten about and that's how elections are decided in many towns. That's why I put my neck out there."

In the Democratic primary, voters were asked to elect two: Shawn Wallach and Jeremy Seideman.

  • It will be two Republicans versus two Democrats for two seats on the Middletown Township Committee in the general election in November.
