County Will Spray For Mosquitoes Tuesday In Keansburg, Hazlet, Holmdel

KEANSBURG, NJ — The Monmouth County Office of Mosquito Control will spray for mosquitoes in sections of Keansburg, Holmdel and Hazlet this Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The spraying will be done between 3:00-6:00 a.m.

In Keansburg, the treatment area will be in residential areas north of Port Monmouth Road and the Henry Hudson Trail; east of Waackaack Creek; south of the Raritan Bay; and west of Lawrence Avenue, Twilight Avenue, Shadyside Avenue and Forest Avenue.

In Hazlet and Holmdel, the treatment area will be in residential areas along and north of Hawthorne Avenue, Bayberry Drive and Plum Lane; along and west of Laurel Avenue (includes Agostina Drive, Weller Place, Raymond Court and Russel Place; south of Lillian Drive, Raritan High School and streets along Middle Road (CR 516); and east of Union Avenue.

The county will be spraying a chemical called Duet using Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayers mounted in the bed of a pick-up truck. A map of the areas to be treated and a fact sheet will be posted on the Office's website visitimonmouth.com/mosquito under mosquito schedule and maps.

West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes in those towns.

"Mid-July through September is the peak time for West Nile virus activity," said Commissioner Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. "When people are outdoors, they should take precautions such as using repellents or wearing long-sleeve shirts and long pants to avoid mosquito bites. Residents can also reduce the presence of mosquitoes by dumping any containers holding water around their property."

"Monmouth County is continuing to conduct proactive surveillance while employing constant monitoring and applying precision treatments to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses for residents," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "The County can provide inspectors who will visit properties to identify standing water sources that support mosquito larvae.
