Fall Birding Walks At Sandy Hook

These are guided walks led by a birding expert. Held at various times in October, and $25 for non-members.

During the fall migration, Sandy Hook acts as a pivotal stopover for various species of songbirds and shorebirds before reaching their wintering grounds. Join their expert birder, Dan Burgoyne, for all these walks.

Perfect for birders of all experience levels and beginners are welcome.

Cost per each guided bird walks: Member - $15 per participant
Nonmember - $25 per participant

Wednesday, October 7, 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. Fall Morning Warbler & Shorebird Migration

Friday, October 16, 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. Sunset Birding Walk

Friday, Oct. 23 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Fall Wild Edible Plant Walk

Explore the wild edible plants that thrive throughout the park on this guided excursion. Learn how to identify seasonal species, sample a few along the way and enjoy a taste of homemade jams prepared from fruit foraged right here on Sandy Hook.

Sandy Hook Homeschool Family Fun Day Wednesday, October 7 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Homeschool students and families will explore and learn about the coastal environment, including a maritime forest walk & craft, a bird migration lesson, and signs of fall. Learn more and register here.

Junior Angler Program - Sunday, October 11 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The National Park Service and the American Littoral Society are partnering to teach young people surf fishing on Sandy Hook. Find more info and register on our website.

Adult Surf Fishing Clinic - Sunday, October 18 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Join the American Littoral Societies Fish Tagging Manager to learn the art of fishing for Striped Bass on the surf during the 2026 fall striped bass migration. Find more info and register on our website.
