MIDDLETOWN, NJ — An adult man in Middletown made comments on social media that referenced New Monmouth Elementary School, and were "concerning," said Middletown Mayor Tony Perry.

"Yesterday, the Middletown Township Police Department was made aware of concerning social media posts made by a resident referencing New Monmouth Elementary School," said Perry. "Our police officers acted immediately, quickly identifying and locating the individual."

Middletown Police have not released the man's name, or if any criminal charges were filed against him.

The comments were made on a social media site called Threads; it was a series of long, rambling posts and, in one of them, he mentioned New Monmouth Elementary.

The comments were discovered at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Middletown Police quickly located the man.

All Middletown public schools have an armed, Class-3 police officer in them at all hours of the school day.

"There is no ongoing threat to New Monmouth Elementary School or the public," said the mayor.
