Free September Birding Walks Planned At Short Hills Arboretum

Sunday walks will help visitors identify birds by sight and sound throughout September at Cora Hartshorn Arboretum.

SHORT HILLS, NJ — Bird watchers can start September Sundays with a guided walk through Cora Hartshorn Arboretum.

The arboretum will offer free guided birding walks from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday, September 6, and again September 13, 20 and 27 at 324 Forest Drive South.

With binoculars in hand, participants can practice identifying birds by sight and sound with help from longtime birders and arboretum staff members.

The program is recommended for people ages 12 and older, though organizers say all interested visitors are welcome. That makes the walks an outing for beginners as well as seasoned birders hoping to spot species moving through the sanctuary.

The series gives Short Hills residents a free way to explore the neighborhood's landscape while learning more about its feathered visitors.

Visitors should check the arboretum's calendar for updates before heading out.
