What is happening on Millburn Avenue, and whose fault is it? The answer is simple, bad planning and Frank Saccomandi.
Once again, Mayor Saccomandi thinks he knows better than the experts and has made a bad decision. Millburn Avenue between Lackawanna Place and Holmes Street has become a traffic nightmare and the fault lies with Mayor Saccomandi and his inexcusable decision to re-appropriate a $150,000 state grant.
In 2025, Explore Millburn-Short Hills secured a $150,000 Main Street New Jersey Transformation Grant to replace deteriorating brick sidewalks, add plantings and remove excess signage on Millburn Avenue. Something that residents and businesses have been begging for. Then Mayor Saccomandi stepped in. He hijacked the project and changed the location and the scope. He ignored the hard work of township and Explore Millburn-Short Hills staff and created his own pet project , which remains unfinished and in disarray.
Mayor Saccomandi has made a habit of asserting control over downtown initiatives, but control is not the same thing as leadership. Perhaps that is why our long-time SID Executive Director and Marketing Director, Township Engineer, and Assistant Township Engineer left for another town.
The irony is difficult to overlook. Mayor Saccomandi ran on transparency and good government. Explore Millburn-Short Hills did the work and got the grant. The $150,000 grant was secured. The plan was developed - and then our overbearing mayor stepped in.
Vote for Bill Brazell and Beth Zall in November and stop Frank Saccomandi from turning Millburn Township into a failed pet project.
