Township Committee members, municipal officials, Historic Preservation Commission members, representatives of the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society, Parsil family descendants and residents attended the celebration.

Guests also toured the restored home, now furnished with historical artifacts and memorabilia.

"This has been a long time in the making," Business Administrator Alexander McDonald said. "By restoring historical buildings and filling them with items significant to our Township's past, we honor the community by providing residents spaces to learn from and enjoy."

According to the Township of Millburn, the Parsil family built the house in 1825.

The township purchased the property in 2013 and has worked with the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society to restore it.

The property also includes the Parsil Family Cemetery, where Revolutionary War soldiers are buried. The cemetery is a visitor point along the Millburn Veterans Memorial Path.

In 2024, the 1772 Foundation awarded the historical society a $15,000 grant for roof replacement and restoration.

In November 2025, Cecilia "Ceci" Liang of Scouting America Troop 19 led an Eagle Scout service project restoring the cemetery's chain fence.

During the ceremony, Mara Epstein of the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society reflected on the building's significance.

"History is meant to be shared," Epstein said. "This house, which was once only part of the Parsil family history and those families who lived within its walls, is now part of the story of Millburn."

The restored house now offers visitors an opportunity to explore nearly 200 years of local history.

For more information about the property, the township directs inquiries to the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society.
