We were street kids, not the country club set...

I remember as a kid having to sneak into the private country club near our house to use their tennis courts. We were street kids..not the country club set. Not even close.

I just met up with an old friend of mine -- a tennis buddy.  We met up on the court like old times and hit tennis balls for about an hour. We probably talked over the net for most of that time.  It felt good. Like old times. Like we were younger. It's amazing how some things take you back -- the smell of a certain food, a song, a childhood activity.  I remember as a kid having to sneak into the private country club near our house to use their tennis courts.  We were street kids, not the country club set. Not even close. I guess that's what made it even more fun; having to sneak in, the possibility of getting caught, the danger.

Today I could pay my money and join that club, but it wouldn't be any fun.  Something about it is lost. It may be the danger element, the no trespassing sign that we knew applied to us or maybe it's just our youth that is lost. I don't know. I just know it was good seeing an old friend. Spending some time together back on the tennis court.
