Studio 1200 has been named the AIA NJ “Firm of the Year” - the organization’s highest honor recognizing excellence in design, practice, and service to the profession and community.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Studio 1200 is a multi-disciplinary architecture and interior design firm based in Short Hills, New Jersey. Known for its expertise across multiple project types, the firm distinguishes itself through a combination of thoughtful design, technical excellence, and exceptional client service.

“From reinvigorating downtowns through adaptive reuse and mixed-use projects, to renovating homes and corporate headquarters, Studio 1200 has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality design solutions,” said Justin Mihalik, nominator and AIA-NJ past president.

Studio 1200 is known for its collaborative, forward-thinking approach. “We are committed to delivering innovative and thoughtful design while providing the highest level of client service,” said Nancy Dougherty, Principal. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team and the trust our clients place in us.”

Founded by Sandee Markwith, Studio 1200 has grown to 18 architects and interior designers, 30 percent of whom are licensed professionals. “We run the firm with a strong entrepreneurial mindset, and we are immensely proud of our hard-working, talented team,” said Markwith.

AIA-NJ cited Studio 1200’s robust mentoring program and commitment to community service as key factors in the award. The firm supports emerging professionals through internal mentorship and university partnerships, while also serving on local nonprofit committees and providing pro bono design services.
