Local Nonprofits Come Together to Inspire Community Service at Nonprofit Organization Fair

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Millburn Short Hills Chinese Association (MSHCA) will host a Nonprofit Organization Fair on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Taylor Park in Millburn. The event is free and open to the public.

Designed to promote civic engagement, volunteerism, and community leadership, the fair will bring together more than 20 nonprofit organizations serving Millburn, Short Hills, and neighboring communities. Organizers hope the event will create meaningful connections between local residents and organizations that are working every day to strengthen the community.

The fair was created with a simple but important mission: to help students, families, and adults discover opportunities to give back close to home. By connecting residents directly with local nonprofits, the event aims to make volunteering more accessible, meaningful, and impactful.

For many students today, balancing academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities leaves limited time for community service. Volunteer opportunities that require long travel times can create additional challenges for busy families. The Nonprofit Organization Fair seeks to remove those barriers by bringing organizations together in one convenient location, allowing students to explore causes they care about while developing leadership skills, compassion, and a stronger connection to the community.

Organizers also hope the event will encourage young people to view volunteerism not simply as a requirement, but as an opportunity to make a lasting difference. Students seeking volunteer hours will be able to meet organization leaders, learn about ongoing projects, and discover ways to contribute their talents in meaningful ways.

At the same time, the fair offers nonprofit organizations an opportunity to connect with passionate volunteers, community supporters, and local families who are eager to become more involved in meaningful causes. Many smaller nonprofit organizations often face challenges in reaching new audiences, recruiting volunteers, and increasing public awareness about the services they provide. By bringing together a wide range of organizations in one central community event, the fair creates valuable visibility and allows nonprofits to directly share their missions, programs, and ongoing needs with residents face-to-face.

The event also encourages collaboration among local organizations by creating a space where nonprofit leaders can exchange ideas, build partnerships, and identify opportunities to work together on future community initiatives. Through stronger community engagement and increased volunteer participation, nonprofits can expand their impact, strengthen their programs, and continue providing essential services that benefit residents of all ages. Organizers hope the fair will not only connect volunteers with organizations, but also help build a more connected, supportive, and service-oriented community overall.

Participating organizations represent a broad spectrum of community service and outreach efforts, including education, environmental conservation, youth leadership, emergency services, cultural preservation, senior support, and public engagement.

By bringing together residents and organizations in one space, MSHCA hopes to inspire a new generation of community leaders and demonstrate the power of local engagement.
