Hartshorn Drive Burglary Remains Unsolved; Public's Help Sought

Millburn police are seeing an unidentified witness to contact them about the July 2009 burglary that left the house ransacked.

Millburn police detectives are again seeking the public's assistance to help solve a burglary that left a Hartshorn Drive home ransacked in July 2009.

The burglary was reported at the residence at 176 Hartshorn Drive, which is at the corner of Mohawk Road. The house has since been demolished. Police for the first time on Wednesday provided a photo of the home to remind people of what it looked like before the demolition.

The burglary was reported on July 11, 2009 at just before 7:30 p.m. A witness, who police have not been able to contact since, reported seeing juveniles around the home and hearing the sound of breaking glass. The responding officer found the garage door up and saw numerous windows smashed on the ground and second floors. The rear door also was open. No one was located in the house, and the officer found the residence ransacked and severely damaged.

Police said there were broken wine and liquor bottles on the floors and puddles of alcohol beverages. The wooden Balusters on the stairway to the second floor had been torn out. The house was unoccupied at the time of the incident, but some furniture remained in the upstairs rooms. The drawers and cabinets had been pulled out and the contents spilled onto the floor.

The crime remains unsolved and police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 973-564-7017. Detectives would especially like the unidentified witness to contact them.
