Millburn Library Expands Access to Resources

Millburn Free Public Library re-enters the Essex County Reciprocal Borrowing and Lending program known as ReBL.

The Millburn Free Public Library is re-entering the Essex County Reciprocal Borrowing and Lending program known as ReBL (pronounced “rebel”). ReBL provides walk-in borrowing service at virtually all public libraries in Essex County, plus five academic libraries: Bloomfield College, Caldwell University, Essex County College, Rutgers-Newark, and Seton Hall University.

Millburn’s ReBL participation will be in addition to its BCCLS membership, which provides full cooperative service between 77 member libraries in northeastern New Jersey using one shared catalog.

Before visiting another ReBL library, Millburn residents will have to visit the Millburn Library to get a ReBL sticker affixed to their Millburn library card. This sticker will validate your library card for ReBL privileges through December 31st of that year. Note that a sticker is not required if you plan to visit another BCCLS library. The BCCLS libraries in Essex County, aside from Millburn, are: Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Maplewood, Montclair, Nutley, Roseland, West Caldwell, and West Orange. For libraries that are in both ReBL and BCCLS, the BCCLS privileges take priority, including inter-library shipping, e-book lending, and holds.

ReBL participation is good for walk-in borrowing privileges only. Unlike the BCCLS system, ReBL does not provide inter-library shipping, e-book lending, or holds. Materials that are borrowed via ReBL must be returned in-person to that same library.

At the Millburn Library, it is felt that a very valuable segment of ReBL will be access to the academic libraries, which can be of great use to college students or researchers in Millburn-Short Hills.
