Millburn-Short Hills ‘PirateBots’ Make Mark At Lego Competition
The 5th-grade robotics team includes students from Deerfield Elementary School and Wyoming School.

MILLBURN, NJ — The Millburn-Short Hills PirateBots are making their mark on the Lego world.
Earlier this month, the PirateBots – a fifth-grade robotics team from Millburn-Short Hills – placed 14th in the highly-competitive First Lego Lego (FLL) North Jersey Championship event at Mount Olive High School. According to a news release, the Dec. 10 event was prefaced by a qualifying round of 325 teams throughout the state, and included 60 teams for the North New Jersey championship.
In addition to their recent achievement, the team also won a Robot Performance Award during the Going Bananas Qualifying Tournament in Trenton, tallying the highest score in the Robot Game by more than 14 percent.

The PirateBots team is composed of four 5th graders: Aaron Agrawal, Sean Qin, and Winston Wang from Deerfield Elementary School, and Brandon Wang from Wyoming School.
Each member attended the FLL event last year and won the Robot Design Award.

“The whole FLL experience will benefit the boys in many ways for years to come,” head coach Yan Kong said. “And the most important thing is they harvested the friendship.”
