Movie Theater Wants Engagement Proposals
Clearview Millburn Cinema is holding a promotion to encourage couples to get engaged

"The Proposal" is every young commitaphobe’s worst nightmare. Hapless Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) is forced to marry his pushy Canadian boss (Sandra Bullock), or else she’ll be deported and he’ll be unemployed.
The movie did well in its opening weekend, reaching the number one spot in national box office figures and pulling in over $30 million. Over 3,000 theaters showed the movie, including Clearview Millburn Cinema.
In order to generate publicity for the already popular flick, Clearview Millburn is staging a romantic promotion. Anyone who proposes in the theater’s lobby will be congratulated on the marquee outside and invited to submit their love story.

The theater management will award prizes to the best stories. There are 12 gifts up for grabs, including a $100 gift certificate to Roxy Shoe Store and two free tickets to the Paper Mill Playhouse.
Clearview Millburn manager Samir Shalaby said that the exact number of winners—anywhere from one to 12—would be decided after all of the submissions are filed. The contest will run until July 9.

Shalaby said that he has organized similar stunts in the past, but that this one is special.
“Because of the economy, we thought it was a good idea to encourage people to propose,” he said. “It will help people in this type of economy to improve relationships and to help young couples to get engaged”
When the winners are chosen, Clearview Millburn will put together a scrapbook filled with stories and pictures of the couples to send to Disney, "The Proposal" distributor, who will keep it to possibly use in later promotions.
So far, there have been no submissions, but Shalaby expects a good turnout based on the high number responses to past contests. According to Shalaby, 35 people sent in pictures and stories of their dogs for a contest inspired by "Bolt," the animated children’s movie about a heroic canine.
“I always have ideas about how to help people,” he said.
