National Night Out Attracts Crowd

Families flock to downtown for the fun coordinated by the Millburn Police Department.

Face painting, hot dogs, hoola hoops and moon bounces were just some of the fun in downtown Millburn on Tuesday night. It was National Night Out, sponsored by the Millburn Police Department. There were crowds of families on Main Street taking part in the festivities that also included information from police, the fire department, the Millburn-Short Hills Chapter of the Red Cross, the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad and the department of public works. Kids got to sit on a police motorcycle, take a tour of an ambulance and walk through the fire department's smoke trailer.

National Night Out is a national crime and drug prevention event that has been going on for 27 years. Last year marked the first time Millburn held an event. The national event is sponsored by National Association of Town Watch. The program also encourages leaving the lights on and holding front porch vigils with your neighbors.
