National Night Out Back for Second Year

The event, sponsored by the police, is scheduled for Aug. 3.

National Night Out is returning for a second year in downtown Millburn.

The Millburn Police Department has partnered with the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance and the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce for the event on Aug. 3 at 5-8 p.m. on Main Street between Millburn Avenue and Essex Street.

There will be music, free hot dogs and refreshments for children plus two moon walks, face painting and other activities. Police will distribute child ID kits that include DNA identification. Child safety seat information will also be available.

The Millburn Fire Department will provide fire safety information. Blood pressure checks will be provided by the Millburn–Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad.

The event is an opportunity for Millburn residents to meet law enforcement and other public safety officials while seeing neighbors and friends in a family atmosphere.

National Night Out is a national crime and drug prevention event that has been going on for 27 years. Last year marked the first time Millburn held an event. The national event is sponsored by National Association of Town Watch. The program also encourages leaving the lights on and holding front porch vigils with your neighbors.
