New Technology Initiatives for Saint Rose of Lima Academy

Saint Rose of Lima Academy in Short Hills, New Jersey has added several new technology initiatives for the new 2014-2015 school year.

First, we have purchased 25 Kindles for the school. These eReaders can be signed out by teachers for students to use during class to read and discuss books. The Kindles also have internet capability and can be used for research as well.

We also have 25 new notebook computers. These notebooks will be assigned to our 8th grade students for their use during the school year. They can use them in school and bring them home so they can use them to do their homework. The 8th graders are already excited about this new technology.

Thirdly, we are implementing a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program for our 7th graders. This will allow our 7th graders to bring in their own laptops, iPads or other devices to use in school for research, keeping a calendar, taking notes and many other tasks.

Lastly, we are in the process of setting up a system called Office 365. This cloud-based system will allow students to collaborate on projects wherever they are. They log in to the service, and they can message each other, edit documents simultaneously, and video conference whenever they like. This collaboration tool will empower students to work together on projects, studying for tests, brainstorming and many other uses that we know the students themselves will come up with.

We believe that this will be the most exciting year yet in technology for Saint Rose. Everyone from the Principal, the teachers and the students are very excited about all the new technology.
