Police Investigate Thefts, Make Arrests at Mall

Also, a local teen was arrested on drug charges following a car crash.

The Millburn police made several shoplifting arrests, including one on a warrant, after investigating thefts at the Mall at Short Hills last week.

Solstice reported thefts on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, an employee reported someone stole a pair of Gucci sunglasses worth $275. On Sunday, an employee reported the theft of Gucci sunglasses valued at $295 and a pair of Prada sunglasses valued at $275. No arrests were made.

On Thursday, police arrested Besnik Skenderaj, 30, of Bloomfield, and charged him with shoplifting on a warrant from an incident on Tuesday. He is accused of concealing a cellular phone valued at $379.99 from the AT&T store. Skenderaj came to police headquarters for his arrest.

Police arrested Alsamad Bryant, 19, and a 15-year-old, both of Newark, on Wednesday and charged them for shoplifting at Hollister. Bryant is accused of concealing a shirt valued at $19.50 and a jacket valued at $49.50 in a shopping bag. The teen, whose name was withheld because of his age, is accused of concealing a pair of jeans valued at $39.50 and a shirt valued at $29.50 in a separate shopping bag.

The area manager for Rosetta Stone reported on Tuesday someone stole six language learning software packages in July. The merchandise has a combined value of $3,500. Police believe the thefts happened sometime between July 2 and July 30.

Teen Charged After Car Crash

A local teen was arrested for marijuana possession following a car crash on Parsonage Hill Road on Sunday.

The 17-year-old, whose name was withheld because of his age, was charged with possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana and issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving. The crash was just east of Denman Court at just before 10:30 p.m.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor cuts by the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad. There were two other passengers in the car who were not injured.
