Police Increasing Patrol on Glen Avenue

Police blotter also mentions several thefts at Mall at Short Hills

If you are driving on Glen Avenue, watch your speed. Police Captain James Miller says increased radar patrol will be monitoring the street. A message board was placed on Glen Avenue on August 11th alerting motorists to the 25 mph speed limit, says Miller.

Police investigate stole vehicle

According to the MPD, a 2002 Lexus was stolen from the parking lot of the East Orange Golf Course on Sunday. The owner believes it was stolen between 11:00 and 11:50 p.m., the police say. Nearly two hours later, the police were called back to the scene as the owners of two additional vehicles reported that the locks on the driver's side doors had been removed from their cars. The cars were not stolen and the suspects did not gain entry.

Several charged with shoplifting at The Mall at Short Hills

Two juvenile shoplifters, from North Carolina and Summit, were taken into custody on August 13th for attempting to conceal $541.90 worth of merchandise, according to police reports. The teenagers were charged with shoplifting.

On August 10th, Tiffany & Co. employee Andrea Velasquez, 24, of Harrison, was arrested for allegedly shoplifting $3,650 worth of jewelry between April and August 9, 2010.  Velasquez was charged with shoplifting, police say.

On August 9th, Tam Tran, 23, of Monroe Township was arrested at Neiman Marcus for attempting to conceal a $54 article of clothing in his shopping bag while leaving the store. He was charged with shoplifting, according to the police report.

Also on August 9th, police arrested Nigel King, 22, of Maplewood, after stoping his vehicle on JFK Parkway North. Police say King was charged with shoplifting $771.00 worth of merchandise from Nordstrom.
