Power Issues Resolved at Police Department

But further repairs will be needed to the underground power line at headquarters.

The power issues have been resolved at the Millburn Police Department, but more work is needed.

Jersey Central Power & Light workers installed a new overhead power line Wednesday evening, said Police Capt. James Miller, public information officer. But the overhead line is a temporary solution until the underground line to police headquarters can be repaired. JCP&L has yet to give a reason to police officials on what caused the power problems that started Tuesday night.

The power problems at the department started Tuesday night when the building converted to back-up generator power. But on Wednesday the generator went out and the building lost power. The Essex County Office of Emergency Management was notified and they brought a generator for the department to use until repairs could be completed by JCP&L.

The final repairs will require JCP&L workers to dig up the underground line in the front of the department on Essex Street. Miller said the repairs, which likely will close a lane of traffic on Essex Street, have yet to be scheduled.

There were no reported power issues at the Millburn Fire Department, which is next door to police headquarters.
