Short Hills: Organizers Gear Up for Missy's Miracle Fundraiser and Mother's Day Shopping Event

Funds will help provide scholarships for children affected by an organ or tissue transplant.

On Wednesday, May 6, the Racquets Club of Short Hills will host a fundraising shopping event for the Missy’s Miracle Family Fund.

The event will feature a selection of Mother’s Day-friendly items. Participating vendors will donate 20 percent of the final sales to Missy’s Miracle.

Admission is free. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Racquets Club of Short Hills, 162 Hobart Ave.

According to a release, the event is being spearheaded by Millburn resident Missy Rodriguez, who suffered from acute liver failure in 1985. As a result, Rodriguez had to receive a liver transplant at the age of 10. Since then, Rodriguez has been dealing with the repercussions of the transplant - including treatment for skin cancer, a side effect of the medication she takes - since 2014.

The funds will go aid her charity, Missy’s Miracle, which supports scholarships for children who have been affected by an organ or tissue transplant.

“I came up with this idea because it brings together my professional career as a college counselor with my personal life as the first 10 year old to receive a successful liver transplant,” Missy Rodriguez told Patch. “I already have candidates who are interested in the scholarship.”

Vendors will include: Beauty by Jane, Beauty Counter, Natural Beauty Products, Bling It Up, Cabi Clothing, Camp Takajo & Tripp Lake, Cupcakes by Renee, Impulse Jewelry & Accessories, It’s Personal Stuff, Jake’s Jems, JTS Confections, Just Gwenn, Knof Design, Millburn High School (Missy’s Miracle Club Bake Sale), Personal Training & Fitness, W by Worth and Sweet Jane’s Granola.
