Storm Causes Problems Sunday Morning

There was flooding reported in several neighborhoods, and firefighters responded to a wire fire on the 500 block of Millburn Avenue.

A Sunday morning thunderstorm caused flooding problems in some neighborhoods and possibly led to an an electrical wire fire on Millburn Avenue.

The storm pushed through town around 10 a.m. on Sunday, and firefighters responded to several calls of flooded basements. According to one fire department report, the storm left about an inch of water in a driveway on Hobart Avenue.

An electrical fire atop of a telephone pole at 510 Millburn Avenue created a power outage, according to a fire deparrment report.  Power was out on the 500 block of Millburn Avenue due to the fire, and firefighters and police closed the street for more than three hours—from about 10:30 a.m. to about 1:45 p.m.—to protect area residents and businesses.

Businesses were told to use their rear entrances. A Jersey Central Power & Light repair crew arrived at about 1:30 p.m. and de-energized the area wires and began repairs. It's not clear of lightning hit the pole during the storm. Power was restored by late afternoon.
