1,000 Cans Of Soup Collected At Food Drive Event In Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County residents recently rallied to collect more than 1,000 cans of soup for local food pantries with the help of a state lawmaker from the 27th District.

Assemblywoman Rosy Bagolie helped to spearhead a holiday-themed food drive and concert at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair last month to support Power of One and Toni’s Kitchen.

In addition to the soup collection, organizers gathered donations of juice, cereal and fruit cups - each essential components of “emergency relief kits” that were distributed to neighbors in need. See Related: NJ Assemblywoman Backs Holiday Food Drive

The event featured entertainment by James McGill, who gave a rousing performance at the tavern, which was recently named one of the best “bars of the year” in a national ranking.

“Thank you for showing up for our neighbors in need,” Bagolie told attendees.

According to the assemblywoman, food insecurity remains a pressing issue in New Jersey, especially during the colder months.

“Food insecurity is real,” Bagolie said. “We called on our community to help, and they responded with overwhelming generosity. These care packages will make a tangible difference for our neighbors in need.”

Bagolie represents the towns of Livingston, Millburn, Montclair, Roseland and West Orange in Essex County, and Clifton in Passaic County.
