1 Hurt, ‘Heavy Damage’ In Montclair Apartment Building Fire
MFD: Firefighters from Bloomfield helped bring the blaze under control. Crews from Clifton, West Orange and Cedar Grove covered the town.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A person was injured and an apartment building saw “heavy damage” in a fire that took place on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Montclair Fire Department released the following statement about the blaze:
“On Dec. 15 at 11 a.m., the Montclair Fire Department received a call reporting a fire at an apartment building on Walnut Street. The residents self-evacuated prior to fire department arrival. The fire was located in an apartment on the first floor. MFD units stretched multiple hose lines to the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage to the first-floor apartment, smoke/water damage to the apartment below, and smoke damage to the apartment above. A unit from Bloomfield helped bring the fire under control, units from Clifton, West Orange and Cedar Grove covered the township for the duration of the incident. There was one civilian treated for burn injuries at the hospital. There weren’t any reported fire department injuries. The last unit cleared the scene at 2:45 p.m.”
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Montclair fire officials said.
