MONTCLAIR, NJ — How many cases of the coronavirus were reported in Montclair during 2021? And how many people died from COVID-19?
Essex County officials began releasing daily COVID-19 statistics in March 2020, including cumulative (total) cases and deaths. That effort continued for all towns and cities in 2021, including Montclair.

County officials have noted that their numbers may not match municipal or state totals, and that cases are sometimes reassigned to a different location after an investigation. Essex County officials have also noted that ongoing data cleaning has taken place in their reporting system to "remove duplicate cases or errors," which may lower case totals.

MONTCLAIR TOTALS
There are 40,921 people living in Montclair, the latest U.S. Census shows.
According to the county, Montclair began the year on Jan. 1 with 1,187 cumulative COVID-19 cases and 57 deaths linked to the disease.
As of Dec. 28, Montclair’s cumulative case total has risen to 3,656, an increase of 2,469 over the 12-month period. Meanwhile, the town's death total was at 78, an increase of 21 since the beginning of the year.
