2022 Sleep Out Montclair Edition Junior League Montclair Newark

Please Join us 2022 Sleep Out: Montclair Community Edition hosted by the Junior League Montclair - Newark, Inc to Support Covenant House.

The Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc is supporting the 2022 Covenant House Sleep Out: Montclair Community Edition on March 4th. Covenant House has found homeless in abandoned buildings, living under bridges, sleeping in deserted buildings, or spending the night on trains. Others out of necessity stay with people they have just met, often at a cost very detrimental to themselves. Every year we lose kids to gangs, jail, human trafficking, substance abuse, and even death. Covenant House, New Jersey mission is to provide comprehensive residential care and related services to help New Jersey’s youth who have suffered from abuse, neglect, abandonment, homelessness and human trafficking. With the world still moving through various versions of a pandemic and many unforeseen, negative economic situations, many more people are experiencing homelessness. Since 2016 Homelessness has been increasing and the Homelessness in 2021: Five Factors to Watch” report predicts that homelessness is on the rise among two distinct age groups, the very old and the relatively young. With 4.2 million kids facing homelessness in America every night and here in New Jersey, there are about 3,000 kids that do not have a home, this situation must be addressed.

The Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc (JLMN) is committed to helping resolve this situation by conducting this year’s Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc (JLMN) Sleep Out benefit. As there is no doubt the pandemic has required us all to get creative and find new ways to support this urgently needed campaign. Normally held outdoors in a town parking lot, in the cold with other sleepers, the past years have been adapted so will the 2022 Sleep Out event. For 2022 there will be two ways to support Sleepout with opportunities for in-person participation at the Montclair Women's Club in Montclair, NJ and remote sleepers will be able to participate virtually, from anywhere, and with anyone.

All Sleepers will be invited to participate in a live, interactive online program with Covenant House New Jersey alumni, front-line staff, and fellow Sleepers from across the country. At night, our Sleepers will give up their beds and Sleep Out at the Montclair Women's Club or in their backyards, garages, porches, terraces, and floors across NJ. Your participation will fund targeted strategies that reduce homelessness and to not have this event would be devastating especially since the proceeds of this JLMN fundraiser enables Covenant House, NJ homeless youths to start building a life for themselves that is safe, sustainable and healthy. We hope you understand the need and will join us.
