3 Cars Stolen In Montclair, Including 2 During Home Burglary: Police

A Montclair resident woke up when he heard a car door closing. Here's what happened next, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Burglars stole two cars from a Montclair home on Monday, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, a Summit Avenue resident told officers that he woke up around 3:45 a.m. when he heard a car door closing. When he went downstairs to investigate, he saw that someone had burglarized it.

Police said that the suspects entered the home through a first-floor bathroom window. Once inside, they took the keys to a 2020 BMW X5 and a 2017 BMW X5, then fled the scene – taking both of the vehicles with them.

The 2017 BMW was abandoned the following day in Irvington after being involved in a single-car accident, police said.

Another car was stolen from a Montclair home’s driveway on Monday in a separate theft, authorities said.

According to police, a Gates Avenue resident said a 2022 BMW X7 was stolen from their driveway during the overnight hours.

A GPS signal last pinged the vehicle to Newark, authorities said. No additional information was immediately available.
