Fight Leaves Man Bloody In Montclair, Assault Charge Filed: Police

Police broke up a fight between two men. One was holding a folding knife in his hand when officers arrived, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A man was hospitalized and another was arrested after a fight in Montclair left one of them bloody on Monday, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the fight took place near the intersection of Church Street and South Fullerton Avenue.

Here’s what happened, police said:

“An officer patrolling the area of Bloomfield Avenue/Church Street/South Fullerton Avenue observed two adult males involved in a physical altercation. After breaking up the fight, the officer observed the victim – a 33-year-old male from Montclair – bleeding from his face, neck and stomach. The officer also observed the suspect – a 67-year-old male from Montclair – was holding a folding knife in his left hand. The suspect was ordered to drop the knife and complied with the officer.”

Both people gave officers conflicting accounts about how the fight began, authorities said.

An EMS crew from Bloomfield responded to the scene and treated the wounded man for non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Mountainside Medical Center for additional medical treatment.

The other man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession, police said.
