MONTCLAIR, NJ — A boil water advisory was issued Friday for residents who live on a stretch of Gates Avenue in Montclair.

The township issued an alert about the situation, which was linked to a water main break:

“A water main break occurred at the intersection of Gates Avenue and Undercliff Road on the night of Thursday, June 4, causing a loss of water pressure for residents in the area. As a precaution, a boil water advisory is currently in effect Friday, June 5, only for residents on Gates Avenue between Undercliff Road and South Mountain Avenue.”

Residents in the impacted area should boil their tap water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, mixing baby formula, brushing teeth, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or preparing food and beverages.

Bottled water can also be used, the Montclair Water Bureau advised.

The boil water advisory will last until repairs are completed and testing shows the water quality to be safe, officials said.

Details about the alert can be seen online here. For more information, contact the Montclair Water Bureau at 973-744-4600.
