MONTCLAIR, NJ — A car stolen from Monmouth County was used during a home intrusion in Montclair on Tuesday morning, police say.
The Township of Ocean Police Department contacted their peers in Montclair around 5 a.m. about a 2026 Mercedes Benz GLS that was stolen from their town about 90 minutes earlier. The vehicle was pinged to the area of Orange Road and Cross Street in Montclair – setting off a police search.
Meanwhile, an Eagle Rock Way resident reported a burglary in progress at 5:15 a.m., telling police that the intruders were still inside the home. Multiple police units responded to the location.
The arriving officers saw the front and rear doors of the home open. No intruders were found inside, police said.
According to the home’s residents, their alarm was triggered around 5:10 a.m. Surveillance video shows a black SUV – which matches the description of the stolen car – approach the house on Eagle Rock Way. Five men get out of the car and walk up the driveway. One can be seen peering into the front passenger window of a parked BMW, which was locked, police said.
At that point, all five men walk towards the front of the house. They pulled on multiple door handles before using a crowbar to break into the residence.
About a minute later, three of the suspects run out the back door and the other two run out the front door. The five men get back into the SUV and drive away. The vehicle was last pinged headed eastbound on Route 280, police said.
There were no proceeds from the burglary, authorities noted.
