MONTCLAIR, NJ — Two suspicious encounters recently took place in the driveways of Montclair homes, authorities announced Wednesday.
The Montclair Police Department released the following details about each incident:
June 25 (Porter Place) – “The resident reported that his home surveillance system awoke him at approximately 4:30 a.m. The surveillance system captured an unknown person running up the resident’s driveway. Once the surveillance system activated, the suspect ran back down the driveway to an awaiting BMW. Responding officers located a stolen 2019 BMW 330i fleeing the scene east on Porter Place at a high rate of speed towards Hawthorne Place. No pursuit was initiated.”
June 30 (Highland Avenue) – “The resident reported that at approximately 3:18 a.m., a dark- colored vehicle pulled up to the bottom of his driveway and three male suspects exited the vehicle. The three suspects then walked up the driveway and attempted to open the front driver door to his 2025 Range Rover. The door was locked and the suspects were unsuccessful. The three suspects then made their way to the rear of the home. Once in the rear of the home, one suspect made an attempt to open the sliding glass door, with no success. At this time the alarm system started to sound throughout the home. The three suspects then fled the scene traveling south on Highland Avenue. Verona police observed this vehicle, a stolen BMW X5 and pursued it on to Route 280 east before terminating the pursuit.”
