MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair native recently got the chance to surprise a fellow soccer superfan with a free ticket to a World Cup game: his dad.
Lucas McCafferty, a student at New York University, scored a pair of tickets to the FIFA World Cup Final at New York New Jersey Stadium through the Welcome World Rewards Program presented by the FIFA World Cup 2026 New York New Jersey Host Committee, the official regional organizing body for the tournament.
The program encourages both residents and visitors to explore neighborhoods across the region, driving visibility for local businesses while showcasing the culture and communities that make New York and New Jersey unique. Since launching in May, the program has connected fans with more than 1,000 local businesses, restaurants, cultural institutions and community events across New York and New Jersey.
They include the McCaffertys.
“I am extremely happy to have the opportunity to surprise my dad with World Cup Final tickets,” Lucas McCafferty said.
“It has been a dream to attend a World Cup final for both of us our entire lives and one that neither of us thought we'd ever be able to do,” he added.
