Montclair Firefighters Hurt Battling Blazes On South, North Mountain Avenue

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair firefighter was injured while battling a house fire last weekend. No residents were injured, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, the blaze broke out on the 100-block of South Mountain Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of the 3.5-story home and flames running up inside the walls to the third floor. Firefighters knocked the flames down quickly and searched the house from "top to bottom" before sounding the all-clear, authorities said.

A firefighter was injured and taken to Mountainside Hospital for treatment.

The Montclair Police Department, Montclair Ambulance Unit and mutual aid partners from West Orange, Nutley, Orange, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield and Clifton lent aid to the MFD during the incident.

FIRE ON NORTH MOUNTAIN AVENUE

Another residential fire took place Friday on the 100-block of North Mountain Avenue, authorities said.

According to the MFD, firefighters arrived to find a rear deck outside the home fully involved and collapsed, with fire spreading under the siding into the exterior wall. Handlines were stretched to knock down the exterior flames, while crews made entry to open up and chase extension inside.

Primary and secondary searches were negative, including an extra search for a dog reported possibly inside – who was later confirmed safe with the homeowner.

No civilians were injured. A firefighter was treated and released for injuries sustained at the scene, authorities said.

The Montclair Police Department, Montclair Ambulance Unit and mutual aid partners from West Orange, Orange, Nutley, Irvington and Cedar Grove lent assistance.
