MONTCLAIR, NJ — More federal immigration enforcement activity took place in Montclair this week, a local official says.
A community member posted on social media that an ICE arrest involving masked agents was made at the corner of Gates Avenue and Union Street on Tuesday evening.
Deputy Mayor Susan Shin Andersen also commented on the incident.
"I, along with other members of the township council, were made aware of yet another confirmed immigration enforcement sighting in Montclair yesterday in the vicinity of one of our public schools," Shin Andersen reported Wednesday.
The councilwoman said the township has a policy that limits local law enforcement and municipal interaction with federal immigration enforcement: the Montclair Trust Act.
This week's incident is the latest in a growing list of ICE activity in the township.
Federal immigration agents made appearances in the area in September, detaining four people on Elm Street near Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.
Another ICE appearance took place in August, when two employees at Raymond's on Church Street in Montclair were among six people who were detained by federal immigration agents. The workers were reportedly on the way to their jobs at the time.
