MONTCLAIR, NJ — It isn't every day that you get a chance to sell the governor's house.

A new real estate listing for "one of Montclair's most distinguished residences" recently hit the market. The kicker? It's the old digs of Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

Property tax records show that 176 South Mountain Avenue in Montclair is owned by Sherrill and her husband, Jason Hedberg.

The home – which is being marketed at a price tag of $3.49 million – was last sold in 2010 for $1,675,000.

Taxes are listed at $66,642 and the property is assessed at $1.89 million, Montclair Local reported.

According to Stanton Company Realtors, the Empire Victorian home was built in 1865 and is located on over an acre of private landscaped grounds. The home has six bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, and features include a lighted sports court, smart home technology, an outdoor hot tub and a built-in generator.

In August, Sherrill announced that her family has completed their move to Drumthwacket, the official residence of the governor of New Jersey. The mansion is located in Princeton, near the state capital of Trenton.

Sherrill is the first New Jersey governor to live full-time at the state's official executive residence in more than 20 years.

"Drumthwacket is more than the governor's residence – it is 'The People's House,'" Sherrill said. "We're excited to bring it to life with our family, open its doors to New Jerseyans, and share the rich history and heritage that make this place so special."

The governor said relocating her family closer to the Statehouse "puts us at the heart" of New Jersey. But they will never forget their old home, she added.

"Montclair and Essex County have been a beloved home for us and will always hold a special place in our hearts," Sherrill said. "They are where we grew our family and raised our children for the past 16 years, surrounded by a community we will miss deeply."
