New Eagle Scouts in 100 Year Old Boy Scout Troop 13

Troop 13 Montclair celebrated its 100th anniversary this spring followed by the first Eagle Court of Honor in its new century.    Christian Gehman and Robert Van Atta received the highest rank recognition in scouting.    In addition to leadership positions, community service and 21 merit badges, each scout organized and lead a service project.   Christian restored the interior of Channel Cabin at Camp Glen Gray, a camp founded by Montclair scouts in 1917.   For his project, Robert refurbished facilities at the Allen D. Wright Addiction Center in Bloomfield.

Christian and Robert were cub scouts in Pack 12 Montclair, and bridged to Troop 13 seven years ago.    Both scouts joined the Troop’s 2009 Philmont expedition hiking over 84 miles in the New Mexican mountains.   They will attend college this fall:  Christian at Juniata College and Robert at Furman University.

Troop 13 is open boys age 11 to 17 and meets Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Union Congregational Church on Cooper Avenue, Montclair.   The first meeting of the 2011-12 season is Monday, September 12th.    For more information, contact troop13bsa@msn.com.
