Art In The Park Or Bark In The Park?

Loads of items for sale at the event that continues Sunday, September 12 in Anderson Park.

It's called Art in the Park. But perhaps it should be nicknamed Bark in the Park.

You'll find art at Anderson Park this weekend — and lots of it. But you'll also have to weave your way among black labs, collies, and baby strollers.

I had fun checking out other people's artistic talents Saturday. It doesn't matter if your skills are showcased in the kitchen or the woodshop. At Art in the Park there's something for everyone.

Little girls will love the booth that sells clothes for dolls. Think American Girl dolls. And fans of Sesame Street will want to stop by the booth selling Elmo towels. The Oscar towel was amazing! I picked up a grey hooded Elmo sweatshirt for my toddler.

If you prefer woodwork, there's no shortage of (wooden) peg hooks, personalized stools, and chairs for sale.

Jewelry lovers can browse the many booths selling handcrafted silver necklaces and glass earrings. I recommend shopping around before you buy though. It's easy to get ripped off if you're not careful. And don't be afraid to negotiate. I told one shopkeeper his price was out of my budget and he offered to come down a bit.

Along the park walk you'll also find balsamic vinegar, ceramic menorahs, leather bags, and homemade soaps.

My favorite item? The handcrafted soft fabric boxes. They come in a variety of patterns and sizes. There's a white lace box for wedding junk and another one with pictures of blackboards and crayons. I'd like a box for important photos and letters, and another one for my costume jewelry.

Art in the Park continues Sunday, September 12 at Anderson Park in Upper Montclair.
